Established in 2014，the School of Foreign Languages and Trade is made up of the former Department of Foreign Languages and the former Department of International Economy and Trade. Both departments have a history of more than 20 years. Upholding the ideal of “globally-mindedness” and the motto "inclusiveness, lofty ideals, integrity and self-improvement", the school is committed to the cultivation of globally-minded and versatile professionals through multiple channels.
The school offers ten programs: Business English, Business Japanese, Applied Korean, Applied English (Oriented towards Foreign Affairs Service), International Economics and Trade, International Trade Practice (Sino-Korean trade and Sino-ASEAN trade), Customs Declaration and International Freight, Port and Shipping Management, Logistics Management and International Business. Business English is one of the key programs of our college, and Customs Declaration and International Freight is a provincial-level key program.
The school has a team of nearly 100 teachers, among whom 21 have senior professional titles, and 48 have dual professional titles. It has 11 multi-functional training rooms which accommodate a variety of training sessions. In addition, it has set up cooperative programs with a number of institutions in South Korea, Japan and ASEAN countries. Over the years, thousands of our graduates have had a successful career at home and abroad. The employment rate has exceeded 95%.
Key Programs of NHCIC
1.Program of Business English
(May continue the Bachelor’s Degree courses in South Korea）
To meet the needs of the regional economic development and to keep pace with the reform of vocational education, the program of Business English has been pursuing innovation and improvement in its construction since its establishment in 2000. After 15 years of development, it has formed features in course design, teaching, research and staff training.
In the process of cultivating the students’ professional skills, the program focuses on combining basic linguistic knowledge with practical business skills, requiring students to study business in English and improve their English in business practices. The teaching model of “theoretical knowledge --- practice in class---field practice” makes students consolidate professional skills and transform their professional knowledge into vocational capabilities efficiently.
The program of Business English boasts a creative and professional faculties of 25 full-time teachers, among whom 95% have Master’s or Doctor’s Degrees, 40% have dual professional skills certifications, 30% have senior professional titles, and 1 was awarded the “Nanyue Prestigious Teacher” by the Department of Education of Guangdong Province. In order to create a pleasant environment and enhance the student’s abilities for language learning, native English speakers have been employed to offer oral English courses. Competitions and activities are also held regularly to stimulate the student’s interest in English. In the curriculum, great importance is attached to fostering student’s listening and speaking skills and related linguistic courses have been offered throughout the three-year study of English. In addition, in order to achieve a seamless connection between class teaching and employment after graduation，the Business English program has set up 6 well-equipped language labs, 4 foreign trade training rooms and 6 off-campus training facilities to enable the students to apply what they have learned into practice. Utilizing the creative features of the Business English courses and the geographical advantage of the Guangdong Province, field practice in the Canton Fair has been integrated into the teaching plan. Long-term and stable cooperative relationships have been established with many large-scale conference and exhibition corporations such as the Guangzhou Yi Wu International Exhibition Company, Guangzhou BaoliJinhan Exhibition Company and Guangzhou Baiyun International Convention Center. These practical activities not only enable students to be involved in and experience real business practice, but also create a foundation for their future career in international business and foreign trade. The effective integration of on-campus practices and off-campus practical activities strengthens and upgrades the student’s professional knowledge and capabilities.
From 2009 to 2015, students from the program continuously won the first and second prizes in national contests, such as the National POCIB Contest, National English Writing Contest and the National Speech Contest for Technical and Vocational Students.
In 2015, the program has had 560 enrolled students and more than 1500 graduates, among whom 85% work in foreign trade firms, export-oriented manufacturers and enterprises of foreign affairs. The average employment rate reached 98%, and 95% of employers are quite satisfied with the graduates. In addition, 15% of the graduates choose to further their study in universities, either at home or abroad. Some graduates have received Master’s Degrees in key universities in China such as the China Institute of Diplomacy and the South China Normal University.
2. Program of Customs Declaration and International Freight Forwarding

As one of the first key programs of Nanhua College Of Industry and Commerce (NHCIC), the Customs Declaration and International Freight Forwarding program was launched in 2001 and is one of the training and testing centers of the China International Freight Forwarder Association. There are now 601 enrolled students in the program, which makes this program among the largest in NHCIC. So far, the students have had good performances in the National Qualification Exam for customs declaring. Notably, in 2005 the pass rate of the exam reached 34.5%, which is well above the national average of 10%, and received recognition from the Customs General Administration as the first college program in the field of customs declaration and international freight forwarding in the Guangdong Province. 1730 graduates have been produced since its establishment at NHCIC. Many graduates of the program are now working in the Pearl River Delta area and their work has received recognition from professionals in the field of freight forwarding.
The program has a strong teaching team including 2 full professors, 2 associate professors, 1 senior lecturer and 10 lecturers, 90% of whom have “dual-skills” certifications. Also included are two national senior appraisers of professional skills, 1 FIATA international freight forwarding trainer, 1 senior logistics manager, and 2 special researchers from the China Institute of Logistics. Among the teaching staff, 2 have been given the “Nanyue Prestigious Teacher Award” by the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, and 2 others have won the title of “Excellent Teacher” in NHCIC.
The Customs Declaration and International Freight Forwarding program has a progressive and practical teaching system which was designed on the principles of “learning and practicing”. Students of this program are required to familiarize themselves with in-depth theoretical knowledge in school as well as practicing in a simulated working environment, finally earning practical experience off campus. The teaching facilities provided for the students of this program include 3 training rooms which include 1 for practicing E-Port Declaration, 1 for practicing customs declaration documents and 1 for practicing international logistics processes. The students are also provided with opportunities to practice their skills in the following off-campus training bases: Guangdong Zhongheng Customs Broker Co.,Ltd, West True Dragon Transportation (Guangzhou) Ltd, Shenzhen Juhang International Logistics Co.,Ltd, Guangzhou Et-Logistics Co., Ltd, Huangpu Stevedoring Branch Co (Guangzhou Port Group Co Ltd) and Guangzhou Xinbang Logistics Co., Ltd. Among these fine companies strategic cooperation has been carried out under contract between the college and Guangdong Zhongheng Customs Broker Co.,Ltd as well as Xinbang Logistics Co., Ltd.
The teaching team of this program is also very dedicated to academic research. Until now the successfully applied academic projects include 2 Humanities and Science Research Projects (12th Five-Year Plan of Guangzhou), an Education Reform Project from the Logistics Teaching Steering Committee (Ministry of Education) and 3 research projects supported by the Guangdong Academy of Social Science. A series of eight practical college textbooks on customs declaration have been published by the research team and adopted by more than 10 colleges receiving wide appreciation and acceptance. The Modern Logistics Center is a key research base of Humanities and Social Sciences of NHCIC, which was established by this program and has been ranked “Excellent” in the annual assessment in 2010 and 2011.
